Kootenay Sausages Have Been Recalled

Kootenay Co-op burgers and sausages need to be thrown out or returned to the grocery store due to a food recall.

Families with Kootenay Co-op burgers and/or sausages in the fridge need to throw them out or return them to the grocery store due to a food recall.

It’s almost fall and families are enjoying the last few nice days of the year. This is the perfect time to grill up some sausages or burgers on the patio and have a little picnic with the kids before the weather gets too cold. Families planning to do this with Kootenay Co-op beef products with have to rethink their plans, though.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced the recall on Friday. Kootenay sold and distributed the products in British Columbia. The recalled foods include:

‘Garlic & Onion Beef Sausage,’ all codes starting with 0 208170

‘Beef & Wine Sausage,’ All codes starting with 0 208747

and ‘Blue Goose Cattle Lean Beef Burgers, ‘ All codes starting with 0 206177

These beef products may have bits of plastic or metal mixed in them. Fortunately, the CFIA has not recorded any instances of related illness or injury so far.

The idea that we might be feeding our children bits of plastic or metal unaware is scary. This is one reason that some parents prefer to avoid processed meat products since these are the types of food that are most easily contaminated. Some great alternatives may be these chicken tenders or homemade hamburgers.
