Directions regarding display of “Date of Manufacturing” and “Best Before Date” in case of Sweets -Reg.

1.In suppression of the previous order dated 24.02.2020 issued on the subject cited above, in the public interest and to ensure food safety, it has been decided that in case of non-packaged/loose sweets, the container/ tray holding sweets at the outlet for sale should display the “Best Before Date” of the product mandatorily with effect from 1st October, 2020.

2. However, in addition to this, the F60 may also display the “Date of Manufacturing” which shall be purely voluntary and non- binding.

3. The FBOs shall decide and display the “Best Before Date” of sweets depending upon the nature of the product and the local conditions. An indicative list of shell life of various types of sweets is given in the Guidance Note on Safety of Traditional Milk Products which is available on FSSAI website.

4. All FBOs dealing in sweets shall comply with above directions and the Commissioners of Food Safety of all States/UTs shall ensure compliance to these directions.

5. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority in exercise of the powers vested under Section-16 (5) of the FSS Act, 2006.
