MoFPI and Commerce Ministry working on branding of food products: Tomar

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, has said that MoFPI is working with the Commerce Ministry on branding of Indian food products.

He informed that the Commerce Ministry has shortlisted many ready-to-eat food products along with fruits and vegetables for export markets.

“Government is moving towards branding of food products and creation of a Market Development Board,” he said, while adding that food processing is one of the largest industrial sectors with its contribution of 32% in the total food market.

Tomar made these observations while addressing the 14th edition of the seminar Agro and Food Tech hosted by the industry body CII, virtually.

The minister added that India’s agriculture and rural economy is very robust.

He said that significant steps have been taken by the government for proper marketing and technological intervention that includes the three farm Bills passed by the government recently.

While addressing the summit, Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh, has invited the industries to invest in the food processing sector in the state.

He said that Uttar Pradesh was one of the major producers of horticultural crops and food grains in India, which served as a strong base for the food processing industry.

He informed that the state has formed new policy for the farmer producers’ organisations and the state government is keenly promoting the scheme of ‘One District One Product’, wherein agricultural produce from various districts is being promoted.

He added that Government of Uttar Pradesh has initiated a number of policy initiatives to promote investments in the agri and food processing sector and the state is setting new benchmarks and standards in creating a mark in the food processing sector.
