Supermarket Spar is recalling one of its paellas over allergy fears, while a muesli sold by Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Amazon has been pulled from the shelves over salmonella risks
Spar Chicken and Prawn paella and Rude Health’s Ultimate Muesli have been recalled over safety fears.
The Spar paella is being pulled from shelves because it contains fish, molluscs, milk and wheat (gluten), which are not mentioned on the label.
That means the product could be a health risk for anyone with an allergy to fish, and/or molluscs, and/or an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, and/or to wheat (gluten).
The product being pulled has a best before date of 13 October 2021, and comes in 600g packages.
A spokeswoman for Spar told Mirror Money: “At SPAR we take the quality and safety of our food products very seriously.
“As a precaution, we are recalling our Chicken & Prawn Paella 600g, as due to a packaging error the product is seafood risotto and may include Milk, Mollusc, Fish and Gluten which is not declared on the label.
“The recall affects products with the Best Before Date 10/2021 only. We advise anyone who has purchased this item to return to store for a full refund. No other Spar products or batch codes are affected.”
The Food Standards Agency said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to fish and/or molluscs, and/or an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or wheat (gluten), do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Meanwhile Rude Health’s Ultimate Muesli – which is sold on Amazon as well as by supermarkets including Sainsbury’s and Waitrose – is being recalled after it emerged there was a salmonella risk.
Rude Health said the risk came from a thrid-party supplier of Brazil nuts, advising customers not to eat it, and instead return it for a full refund.
Symptoms of salmonella can include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
The products affected are 500g pack sizes and have best before dates of 12 June 2021, 24 June 2021, 20 July 2021 and 21 July 2021.
A notice to customers explains: “Rude Health have decided to recall this product, as a precautionary measure, due to the very small risk of possible salmonella contamination, caused by a third-party supplier of Brazil nuts. This does not affect any other products.”
Customers have been told to return packs to the store they bought them from for a full refund, with or without a receipt, and email hello@rudehealth.com for more information.
